How to delete your account
Last updated — July 2, 2026
You can delete your TakeControl account at any time, directly from the app. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. This page explains the steps and what happens to your data.
Step by step
Follow these steps inside the app:
- Open TakeControl on your phone.
- Tap Settings.
- Go to Security.
- Tap Delete Account.
- To confirm, type TakeControl in the field shown.
- Confirm the deletion. That’s it — your account will be removed.
The typed confirmation exists to prevent accidental deletions. We only complete the deletion after you type TakeControl and confirm.
What data is removed
When you delete your account, we permanently erase:
- Your profile — name, display nickname, email, and profile photo.
- Your friends list — the connections linked to your account.
- Pending invites — invites you sent or received that haven’t been accepted yet.
What data is kept
To preserve the integrity of the groups you shared with other people, some data remains after deletion:
- Group history — the expenses, settlements, and history of the groups you took part in stay available to the other members.
- Name snapshots — the name you were displaying is kept as a static record in those groups, so the other participants can still tell who paid for what.
These records are no longer tied to an active account and can no longer be accessed or edited by you.
